Old Hat

Where are we Going?I thought I’d wheel some stuff out that used to be on my old site and doesn’t really have a place to live here. The first is an illustration I did for my thesis and then didn’t end up using, but I’m quite fond of it. On my hard-drive it’s called “Where are we Going?” (after a vocal sample on GY!BE’s “Providence”) - a combination of a photograph (not mine, I’m afraid) and added painting and drawing. The second is one of a series of storyboards for an fictional leader I did together with Joris wa Kang’eri - just paint and biro. I can’t recall what the non-existent program was to be called, but it was supposed to discuss politics and the workings behind it - hence the cogs. New work soon!

Becher

Bernd BecherI just read this which has made me feel sad. I rather like the atmosphere their work evokes - it really captures the almost tangible sense of time and the silence that lingers around industrial architecture - and seems to caringly contradict its anonymity. Beautiful work, very moving.

Fijne Verjaardag!

Birthday PictureWhich is how we say ‘happy birthday’ in Dutch. I’ve had these characters jotted down on a post-it note for a year and a bit, but hadn’t found anything good to use them in - until now; they’re making their first (and possibly last) appearance on my sister’s birthday card. Click here to see the front and inside (click the image to flick between the two). I had not done these characters in colour before, so it was quite nice to see that what I had in my head work (in my humble opinion) well on paper. No post-production, just paint and rapidograph on paper.
